The PVC business of Chemplast is integrated backwards i.e., it gets its feedstock, industrial alcohol, from its alcohol plant at Panruti, near Cuddalore, and chlorine from its chlor-alkali facilities at Mettur and Karaikal.
It has the necessary port-based infrastructure at Tuticorin to import feedstock like ethylene dichloride (EDC).
It has an Oxychlorination plant to increase production of captive feedstock, i.e., EDC, and ensure effective HCl utilisation.
The power requirement is met by 48.5 MW coal based power plant located at the neighbouring chlor-alkali plant.
A PVC project at Cuddalore, commissioned in September 2009 has an annual capacity of 2,21,000 tons.
Between the Cuddalore and Mettur plants, Chemplast has a capacity to make 2,92,000 TPA of various grades of PVC.
