In keeping with SSCL’s policy of letting action speak louder than words, the inauguration was a quiet affair, essentially a gathering of the Sanmar family and very close associates. No publicity was sought for the event but the building housing the SSCL headquarters and research centre provided an impressive spectacle, standing majestically tall and white, its gleaming glass frontage proclaiming its readiness to do business with the best in the field. In its just-over-a-decade long existence, SSCL has repeatedly proved its capacity for innovation and flexibility, qualities that have made it competitive
in a rapidly changing global environment. Earlier issues of Matrix have featured its several initiatives to attain a global stature; the high quality and commitment of its personnel; its abiding concern for the environment as expressed by its afforestation efforts; its repeated successes in obtaining quality certification and winning awards; the spirit of social service with which its men swung into action not very long ago, to avert what could have been a tragedy caused by the negligence of a business enterprise. Every milestone that SSCL has reached has reflected the company’s ability to dream and translate its dreams into reality. The inauguration of SSCRC has been one such milestone, in the ambitious journey SSCL has undertaken, to be a globally acclaimed enterprise within the next decade.
SSCRC will carry out research as a business, catering to the research needs of its customers. Contract research and custom synthesis will be the main activities of this research centre, which will be employing 30 scientists in its first phase. The facilities include research laboratories, analytical laboratories, a scale-up facility and a utility bank comprising essential utilities like a hot oil boiler and a chilling unit. The Sanmar Speciality Chemicals head office also functions now from the same building.
