The Chemplast Sanmar philosophy, ‘Every Drop Counts’ and the company’s total commitment to Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) has come in for handsome approbation in a 25-minute television documentary produced and telecast by Doordarshan (Podhigai) at the instance of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). This was first telecast on 10 December 2011.
The 5S Excellence Award 2011 was awarded by CII Southern Region to Flowserve Sanmar in the Manufacturing (medium scale) category. The award is based on a self-assessment evaluation and onsite visit by a team of assessors. V Narasimhan, Co-Chairman, Manufacturing Sub-committee of CII Southern Region, presented the award to the Flowserve team.
5S is a Japanese Management system for cleanup activities in the workplace. The reference is to a list of five Japanese words which ‘start’ with ‘S’.

Flowserve Sanmar team received the second prize for 5S Excellence Award 2011 from V Narasimhan, Co-Chairman, Manufacturing sub-committee, CII-SR at Chennai on 8 December 2011.
The Sanmar Group was conferred the “Organisation with innovative HR Practices” by the Employer Branding Institute during the 6th Employer Branding Awards (Southern Regional Round) held on 10 December 2011 at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad. T Sankar received the award which consists of a golden statuette and a plaque.The award comes to Sanmar in recognition of successfully implementing common HR practices across diverse businesses.
An International Conference on “Corporate and Business Response to Climate Change - From Awareness to adoption” was held during 7-9 December 2011 at Periyar University, Salem. Sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC), the conference was organised by the Department of Commerce, Periyar University, Salem, in association with various government and private fi rms and agencies including Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) and Sanmar.
S Venkatesan, Chemplast Sanmar, made a presentation titled “Innovative approach in waste water management - overriding challenges through technology and teamwork” detailing the success story of the Zero Liquid Discharge concept at Mettur. He also co-chaired a technical session on “Waste Management & Development vs Environment” apart from a panel discussion on “Consumption, Waste, Pollution - Source Segregation is the Mantra”.
