The Chemplast cricket team continued its winning run by emerging victorious in this year’s Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup competition conducted by the Hyderabad Cricket Association in early September. It was a repeat performance by the holder of the trophy. In the final, Chemplast trounced a formidable Cricket Association of Bengal team by a margin of 117 runs after posting what had seemed an inadequate score of 209 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.
Medium pace bowler Tamilkumaran and left arm spinner Sreekumaran Nair were the most successful bowlers in the final, while the consistent C Badrinath top scored for Chemplast with 42, and J Harish made 38.
Earlier, captain Sujit Somasunder made 120 and seamers Ganapathy and Prashant Chandran took three wickets each against Railways. In a match against Hyderabad Cricket Association the skipper made 86 and Badrinath 61, while fast bowler Balaji took 5 for 31 and left arm spinner R Ramkumar dismissed three batsmen.
In the semifinal, Badrinath scored an unbeaten 103 with 10 fours and a six, to help Chemplast beat India Cements by 43 runs, with Ramkumar chipping with 3 for 29.
