The Indian Printed Circuit Association (IPCA) organises technical seminars for the benefit of its members every year. Eminent persons are invited to give technical lectures on the latest technological developments relating to products, process, materials and machinery.
SMPL participated in the technical seminar held in September 2000 at Bangalore and presented case studies on value engineering methods towards cost reduction in PCB manufacturing. The presentation elicited a good response from the members, as it highlighted methods of reducing cost without affecting quality. The other presentations at the seminar related to the latest machinery used in micro hole drilling, plating aspects of micro vias and six sigma quality.

Two units at Viralimalai that belong to Sanmar Engineering Corporation won the Tamil Nadu State Safety Awards for the year 1997, announced in November 2000.

The subsidiary of RWTUV Germany, TUV India, verified Atofina Peroxides India Limited (ATOPIL)’s documents and operations in November, 2000. The Environmental Management System (EMS) at ATOPIL was fine-tuned to meet the required standards for certification. On 26th and 27th December, 2000 three auditors went through the complete EMS. They interacted with the employees of ATOPIL at various levels, and were impressed by their response and spirit. The EMS at ATOPIL conformed to the standard requirements for ISO 14001 certification, and was certified.
