Chennai : Bala Vidya Mandir buzzed with activity on Friday, when students from 21 schools came equipped with science projects for an inter-school exhibition.
A science quiz, collage on technology, life science project contest and physical science project contest kept the students busy. Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar, walked away with the overall shield. A project on waste management through source segregation by Narayana Mission School came first in the Life Science category. P.S. Senior Secondary School's stem cell research model and B.S. Mootha Girls School's project on the properties of pepperoni won second and third places.
The big turnout for the quiz required a preliminary round before the final round. Sankara Senior Secondary School, Vidya Mandir and Bhavan's Vidyashram won first, second and third prizes. In the Physical Sciences category, the Sankara team bagged first place with a project on magnetism. A project on evolution of water transport by Arsha Vidya Mandir and a reverse osmosis model by Vidya Mandir also won prizes. The collage contest was on the various applications of modern technology. St. John's Senior Secondary School, Besant Nagar; P.S. School and National Public School won prizes.
