The Madras Management Association in partnership with the Sanmar group has instituted an award for `effective business communications' for young managers. This is an opportunity for talented young entrepreneurs and managers under the age of 35 years to participate and win this award.
According Mr S. Gopal, Deputy Managing Director, Sanmar Speciality Chemicals Ltd, the philosophy behind this award is derived from the inspiration of Late S. Ramaswamy, the first General Manager of Chemplast Sanmar Ltd, who had exceptional and very effective writing skills to write business proposals and business notes.
"We in the Sanmar group believe that it is important to nurture and revive the art of writing effective letters and business proposals in difficult situations and hence the S. Ramaswamy Business Writing Competition."
The participants will be given a challenging business situation with all the relevant data to present a business proposal and a business note. An hour's time will be given to read the case material, and two hours will be given for writing the note.
The note and covering letter should not exceed 2,000 words. The business note and the covering letter will be judged keeping in mind the flow of writing for easy comprehension of the subject, simplicity in language and correctness in grammar.
The idea behind the competition is to bring out the ABC of writing (Accuracy, Brevity & Clarity).
Cash prizes worth Rs 20,000 with a trophy and a certificate will be given to the winners.
