Cabot Sanmar’s project to expand production capacity of fumed silica from 500 tpa to 700 tpa at a cost of Rs.419 lacs taken up in April 2001, has been completed ahead of schedule without any cost overrun. Since January 16, 2002, the expanded facility is (target date January 31, 2002) being utilised for production. The quality of the product conforms to Cabot’s stringent specifications.
A specific highlight of this expansion is the recovery of chlorosilanes at -50 Deg C, which is expected to reduce the effluent burden.
It is proposed to utilise the additional capacity later to make treated grades with a considerable value addition.
