FMC Sanmar Limited (Crosby Valve Division) was a well established joint venture between the Sanmar group and FMC Corporation, USA, until changes at the American company led to changes in the composition of the joint venture as well. Following the takeover of Crosby Valve Inc., USA., a part of FMC Corporation, by Tyco International, Tyco Sanmar Ltd. was formed as a new joint venture. Tyco International, USA., is a worldwide manufacturer and leader in fluid control products, electrical and electronic components and medical disposables. It is the world’s largest manufacturer and provider of fire and safety systems and services. The new joint venture is between Tyco International Engineered Products Group (EPG) and Sanmar Engineering Corporation.
Tyco Sanmar Ltd. apart from continuing the manufacture of the existing range of Crosby pressure relief valves will also induct the Anderson Greenwood range of pilot operated pressure relief valves into its fold. The new joint venture provides an opportunity to introduce the other products manufactured by Tyco-EPG to the Indian market. Tyco Sanmar has also been appointed as a sales agent of Tyco-EPG to sell Environmental Protection Products (EPP), Safety Selector Valves, Tank Blanketing Regulators and Kunkle valves in the Indian market.
The new facility of Tyco Sanmar Limited at Viralimalai was dedicated by N Sankar, Chairman, Sanmar group, on February 1, 2000. In addition to the existing machinery from FMC Sanmar Limited, new machinery has been installed to take care of the increased volumes.
Earlier the Indian market was serviced by the Crosby product range of JOS/JBS/JLT series spring loaded pressure relief valves for unfired pressure vessel applications. For the boiler industry, Crosby style HS/HSA, HC/HCA, HCI/HE and HPV were supplied. Any requirement of pilot operated valves was met by Crosby JPV/JPVM.
In the last 17 years, the installed base has crossed 50,000 Crosby valves. Now, the existing installed base of Crosby and Anderson Greenwood will be fully supported with spare parts from the Indian facility and after sales service by the regional network.

Indian customers can get the entire range of Anderson Greenwood and Crosby pressure relief valves from a single source – Tyco Sanmar Limited. There will be an increase in export opportunities.
Tyco has drawn up aggressive plans for growth to become a dominant player in the safety valves segment, providing quality products at competitive prices. To achieve this, Tyco is looking at the Indian joint venture as a key source for Tyco-EPG.
The joint venture has begun supplies of components for the JOS-E series to Crosby valves in addition to the bodies and bonnets which have been sourced from India. It is also planning to apply for ASME certification which will help in the manufacture of code stamped valves. Tyco Sanmar will be the first safety relief valve manufacturer in India to obtain the code stamping.
The ASME certification will also enhance export opportunities for fully assembled valves to the Far East and Middle East, currently supplied from the US.
Tyco-EPG has also acquired several leading safety valve manufacturing companies like Sempell, Sapag, Whessoe and Varec. Tyco is currently working on product rationalisation of the different ranges, which will lead to opportunities for the joint venture to supply components as well as fully assembled valves to the European market as well.
