Sanmar Engineering Corporation (SEC), a key player of the Sanmar group of companies, stands tall as a provider of total solutions for the Indian process industry. This whiz kid of yesteryear still retains the youthful zest for excellence that kickstarted it 25 years ago. The seeds for SEC were sown by the Sanmar group in 1976 with the creation of the flagship company, Durametallic India Limited (DMI) — now Flowserve Sanmar Limited — to make precision mechanical seals in collaboration with the Durametallic Corporation of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
A world leader in engineered mechanical sealing systems, Durametallic USA, transferred the best technology in the field to DMI, thus setting in motion a pattern that has governed the relationship between Sanmar and its several joint venture partners over the years. The success of that early partnership encouraged other American companies — all of them world leaders in their chosen field of technology — to enter into similar joint ventures with SEC, each of them serving the process industry.
SEC now comprises twelve companies which manufacture a wide range of plant safety, measurement, weighing, automation, fluid control and energy saving products and systems.
Synergy in diversity
Visit any SEC factory · at the Karapakkam, Chennai facility, by the side of the cool, soothing waters of the Okkiyam lake or at Perungudi, Chennai, or Viralimalai, near Tiruchi · and you will be struck by how gleamingly contemporary every piece of equipment is, and how quietly competent, the largely youthful, energetic workforce looks.

It is all about technology management, the way you acquire the latest technology from world leaders, absorb it, internalize it, apply it creatively to the emerging needs of the Indian economy. As a result, the customer gets products identical to the best in the world, specifically adapted to meet his needs.
Today, SEC is one of the most diversified groups in the process equipment market but there is perfect synergy in the operations of the group. In a relatively narrow field, SEC specializes in high value added products and systems for critical applications and equipment.
It offers total engineering solutions. Not only does SEC supply a comprehensive range of products catering to the critical needs of the process industry in India, but it is evolving as a major strategic source for all its joint venture partners.
In quality and performance an SEC product made in Viralimalai or Karapakkam is indistinguishable from its counterpart made elsewhere by the joint venture partner. Turning 25 today, SEC has spawned a clutch of excellent, complementary enterprises through a well thought out strategy of forward and backward integration, characteristic of the Sanmar group as a whole since its beginnings nearly four decades ago.
