June 12 was a proud day for Sanmar Engineering Corporation (SEC) and indeed for the whole group. On that day, Bernard G Rethore, CEO of Flowserve Corporation, dedicated the upgraded new facility at Durametallic Sanmar Limited, Karapakkam. The facility will meet the global standards needed to produce the Flowserve range of products indistinguishable – in quality and in meeting best cost requirements – from any of Flowserve’s sources anywhere in the world. We carry a brief report.
Two of our senior directors retired recently. We take pleasure in publishing interviews with Dr G S Laddha and R K Chari.
We are also happy to feature the bhumi puja performed at Viralimalai to launch the construction of the factory for Tyco Sanmar Limited, the joint venture entered into in February 1999 between the Sanmar group and Tyco
International, USA, following Tyco International’s purchase of the Crosby Valve division. SEC’s Annual Day and the CII awards won by Sensortronics Sanmar and Fisher Xomox Sanmar employees also find special mention.
From the Captain’s Desk is a delightful conducted tour into life at sea by Captain Jaijit Nair of Sanmar Shipping who obviously has a career in writing ahead of him if he ever decides to opt for a shore job. His account accompanies a typically optimistic statement from the company, looking forward to better times.
Sanmar Micropack has added a particularly attractive feather to its cap by winning the encomiums of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre for its high quality supplies which helped launch PSLV-C2, a launch vehicle that carried three space craft for the first time.
An interview with David Hampton, CEO of GIO Sanmar Financial Limited, reproduced from The Economic Times, throws light on the proposed activities of the joint venture in India. The launching by GIO Sanmar Financial of the Depository Service Facility is reported in some detail, as well.
Outstanding performances by Sanmar staff and their kin, as well as the time-honoured long service awards, are the other topics that have made it to this issue of Matrix.
M G Kailis of the M G Kailis Group, Australia, was a close friend of the Sanmar group and N Sankar and family in particular. His passing away on June 25, 1999 has left a big void not only in the group he headed, but also in Sanmar’s Australian connection. A moving letter received from K G Palmer, Managing Director of the group, is reproduced in this issue, to pay tribute to his departed soul.
