On the dais (from l to r): B Natraj, Omkar Goswami, N Kumar, Prasad R Menon, N Sankar, V Narayanan, Vijay Sankar, V Thyagarajan, MN Radhakrishnan, Adit Jain and PS Jayaraman during the inaugural session of The Sanmar Group Annual Day on 16 October 2011, held at Hotel Sheraton Park.
The Sanmar Group took time off to recognise and reward its top performing and long serving employees during the Group Annual Dinner Meet on October 15 followed by the business sessions on October 16, 2011, at Hotel Sheraton Park, Chennai.
The distribution of the awards was followed by fun sessions in ‘Shikar at Raj-Rat’, woven around the theme ‘Rajasthan and Gujarat’ –twin western states of India. The décor at Hotel Sheraton Park attractively displayed Royal Rajasthan and Vibrant Gujarat – their rich heritage and culture, desert safaris, sand dunes, lush forests, mountain ranges, tiger trails and birds in wetlands – colourful, interesting and exotic.
The enthusiasm with which Sanmarites cheered the ‘Employees of the year’ and ‘Long service awardees’ was truly matched by their spouses’ attempts to win prizes at the various stalls with fun games.
Dr Goswami, Founder and Chairman of Corporate & Economic Research Group (CERG) Advisory, titled his address “Navigating Fear – The World and India in diffi cult times” in the context of a “Collapsing Euro, Wobbly USA and an Uncertain India”. He, however, concluded on a positive note, betting on India while remaining critical of its failings.
Mohan V Raman entertained the audience with his “Leadership lessons from sports” by citing examples from the controversial tactics, known as Bodyline, devised by England captain Douglas Jardine to counter the challenge posed by Australia’s batting great, Donald Bradman, in the 1930 Ashes series.
J Sridhar and Dr R Palaniappan presented an internal case study on Zero Liquid Discharge and excellent water management at the Chemplast Sanmar Mettur plant.
Rob Kukowski and Robert Bridges presented an internal case study on “Downsizing an operation at Matrix Metals USA” in the wake of the closure of Richmond foundry.
R Venkataramani and H Karthik presenting their case study on "Glimpses of BS&B’s paradigm revolution".
In his concluding remarks, Vijay Sankar evaluated the performance of each business and the challenges that lay ahead. Sanmar has always been looked upon as a clean group built on a fi rm edifi ce of ethics. He restressed the importance of ethical conduct among all employees.
P Manoharan and Sundar Raman highlighted the key safety initiatives taken during 2011.
The decor and all the games of the evening were based on the colourful states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Sarada Jagan welcomed the employees and their spouses to the annual dinner and an evening of fun and games at Hotel Sheraton Park.
Employees and their spouses got into action at the game-zones of Royal Rajasthan and Vibrant Gujarat to collect their prizes. The fun games included Taming the Tiger (aim the ball at the tiger’s mouth), Coin Sand Mine (capture the coins buried in the sands), Tricky Tumblr (build a pyramid with tumblers), Hit Hit Hooray (datt game) and Dame Luck (Housie).
