Emil Fjermeros, a Norwegian national, has contributed a sum of Rs.2,00,000 from his residual assets in India to the victims of the recent cyclone in Orissa. He as been a long time friend of the Sanmar group and its Chairman Emeritus K S Narayanan. Fjermeros and his wife have a soft corner for India and have continuously ploughed back what they earned in India for over thirty years. Moved by the suffering caused to the people of Orissa by the cyclone, Fjermeros made this spontaneous gesture.
Fjermeros came to work with the Ganges Ink Factory in Calcutta in 1938, and visited its Madras unit regularly till he retired in 1965. Thereafter, he became the Director of the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Project, Ernakulam in 1966 and returned to Norway in 1969. All his earnings from his several investments in India have gone to charities.
